When a bias incident is reported, the case is referred to either the University Police Department (UPD), Judicial Conduct, Equal Opportunity and Regulatory Compliance (EORC), or the Bias Incident Response Team (BIRT). If the bias incident involves a crime, then UPD will make an arrest or recommend restitution as the outcome. For bias involving a Judicial Conduct violation, the outcome is a university sanction. When bias incidents involve employee misconduct, discipline will be made by the Equal Opportunity and Regulatory Compliance. In cases where the bias incident does not involve any legal, judicial, or employee violation, the outcome is education that is provided by the Bias Incident Response Team.
In determining outcomes for reported bias incidents, the University Police Department (UPD), Judicial Conduct, or Equal Opportunity and Regulatory Compliance (EORC), may choose to work with BIRT as part of a sanction.
